The history of Bultaco is that of a brand that left an indelible mark on world motorcycling.
Founded in 1958 by Francisco Xavier Bultó, a two-wheeler enthusiast and former Montesa partner, Bultaco was born with the purpose of manufacturing high-performance sports motorcycles. Its philosophy of innovation, power and groundbreaking design led it to become one of the most emblematic brands of the 20th century
.
The beginnings of Bultaco
At the end of the 1950s, motorcycling was going through a period of change and evolution. Francisco Bultó, after leaving Montesa due to differences in business vision, decided to go his own way. Thus Bultaco was born, with the presentation of its first motorcycle, the Bultaco Tralla 101, a model that quickly caught the attention of fans for its performance and reliability.
The brand soon made a name for itself in the racing world. In 1960, Bultaco motorcycles were already dominating national and international championships. Models such as the Bultaco Sherpa T, designed for trial with the collaboration of the legendary rider Sammy Miller, revolutionized this discipline and took the brand to the top of the competition.
Successes in competition
Bultaco’s DNA has always been linked to racing. Its motocross, speed and trial models won multiple competitions worldwide. The Bultaco Pursang, in motocross, became a reference, while the Bultaco Metralla was the fastest serial motorcycle of its time. These successes consolidated Bultaco’s image as an innovative and powerful brand
.
The crisis and the closure of Bultaco
Despite its success, Bultaco suffered the consequences of the economic crisis of the 1970s and the difficulties of the motorcycle sector in Spain. In 1983, the brand ceased production, leaving an indelible legacy in the history of motorcycling. However, its motorcycles are still
authentic jewels for collectors and two-wheel enthusiasts.
